Sensações...

All Our SensesCells communicate by neurotransmitters and electric signals. Visual cells react to light stimuli, olfactory cells to aromatic substances, sperm to attractants. The way in which sensory cells function on the cellular and molecular level and process signals, what spatial structure the proteins involved possess and what properties the ion channels of the cells have, this is what the scientists at the Institute of Biological Information Processing are investigating. They discovered, for example, that a particular ion channel in the cell membrane, which normally controls the heartbeat and regulates many brain functions, is responsible for the sensation of "sourness" in the tongue.
